Day 6: June 11, 2014

Well the day started out with me going to the park to read the first two acts of Titus Andronicus before class. It was very relaxing and the perfect place to go. This park is within walking distance of Nido and is a burial ground for several people. They did not move the bodies, instead they moved headstones and put them up against the basketball court. There is also a plaque on the gate as a sort of remembrance. It's very interesting. It feels odd with how familiar and accepting I'm becoming about the fact that several people, famous or average are buried in busy places, and I'm walking all over them.

After reading Shakespeare and eating lunch, I headed to class where we discussed the novel and how all the horrors that take place have to happen, because death is too easy. Shakespeare creates a "Hell on Earth" situation for Titus and his family to discuss the brutality that is happening in the city. He is discussing his personal opinions on the public freely by changing the date and place of the atrocities.
We didn't really go too in depth with the rape scene as much as I would of liked, but we did briefly cover the mutilation of Lavinia's body and its representations. The cutting of her tongue represents the voiceless victims of Shakespeare's brutal society. I wish we had discusses what the cutting of the hands represented. I believe that Lavinia's lack of hands represents the people's inability to change the system alone, and I think that Titus' lost hand represents The government's thoughtful attempts at bettering society, but only to be done so in vain.

After class, I dropped my things off and took the tube down to Green Park to walk around and explore some. Green Park is right next to Buckingham Palace and it was first named after King James and is rumored that no flowers are ever planted there, because it's a massive burial ground for victims of the Black Plague, and disturbing deep within the soil may activate those germs again. I took a picture of a map Just to put into perspective how big of a grave it could possibly be, and if so, how many bodies could be down there.
It's rather disturbing and sad to think about. The massive triangle is the park and the building at the very bottom is Buckingham Palace.

Here is a sculpture at Green Park that I took.

This is the statue of Queen Victoria.

This was on of the statues at the entrance from the road.

I love how detailed all of the statues and buildings are. They're beautiful.

This is me in front of the rose garden.

These are the gates leading from the Palace to Green Park.

This is me in front of the side of the fountain that has Queen Victoria's monument on it.

This is Buckingham Palace.

After seeing Buckingham Palace's court yard, I made my way over to St. James's Park. It's gorgeous, and probably my favorite park so far. I was tired from my busy day, so I lied  down on the grass and listened to music, read, and people watched until I got hungry. After that, I walked back to the tube to head back to Nido. I almost forgot. On my way back, I stopped by the market and bought me a hot wheels Kinder egg. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's the rest of the world's version of the Wonderball that we can't have in America, because it's a choking hazard. The box came with 3 eggs and after eating the chocolate shells and opening up the cases, I found these three:

They're so cute :^> That concludes day 6.
